AlphaSim PBM-3D Mariner Procedures

For performance and aircraft specifications see the aircraft menu.

Engine Start

Use Ctrl-E (autostart) to start the aircraft, or:

  1. Set parking brake.
  2. Set throttle to IDLE.
  3. Turn OFF Avionics and light switches.
  4. Turn on Master Battery switch.
  5. Ensure fuel supply is on (advance mixture control fully or press Ctrl-Shift-F4).
  6. Bring up throttle panel.
  7. Set propeller control to HIGH RPM.
  8. Start Engine 1 using the engine start switch.
  9. Monitor oil pressure and temperature.
  10. Repeat for remaining engine.

Takeoff

  1. Make sure fuel is set to main tank.
  2. Set elevator trim to +4 degrees (nose-up).
  3. Set flaps to full down (30 degrees).
  4. Apply full power smoothly.
  5. Pull back on the stick slightly to lighten the nose at about 75 KIAS.
  6. Lift off at about 85-90 KIAS.

Climb

  1. Retract flaps in stages before reaching 110 KIAS.
  2. Set climb power to 38.5" and 2400 RPM.
  3. Climb at 115 KIAS.
  4. Advance throttles as needed above critical altitude to maintain power.

9,500 feet 32" Hg 1975 114 131  202 gph 0.65

Landing - Water

  1. Set propeller to 2600 RPM and adjust throttle as required.
  2. Approach the landing area at about 120 KIAS.
  3. Deploy flaps in stages once airspeed is reduced to 108 KIAS.
  4. A flaps-down gliding speed of 100 KIAS should be established and the aircraft trimmed "hands-off."
  5. Reduce descent rate to 200 fpm at 85 KIAS.
  6. Touch down gently at about 75 KIAS, keeping the nose up to avoid porpoising.
  7. Retract flaps after touchdown.
